Summary
Our client, a growing independent wealth management firm, is seeking an experienced Trust & Estate Tax Manager to lead and expand tax services for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and estates. This client-facing role combines technical tax expertise with strategic financial planning and collaboration across advisory teams.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Trust & Estate fiduciary and individual taxation, enjoy partnering directly with clients and financial advisors, and thrive in a collaborative environment focused on delivering comprehensive wealth planning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Form 1041 fiduciary income tax returns with a strong understanding of trust and estate taxation.
- Interpret trust documents and evaluate related tax implications.
- Review, approve, and sign complex individual income tax returns while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and defensible tax positions.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the firm and its external tax preparation provider, helping manage communication, workflow, and quality standards.
- Oversee outsourced tax preparation activities to ensure timely, accurate, and client-focused deliverables.
- Partner with financial advisors, planners, and internal teams on tax planning strategies and client initiatives.
- Coordinate tax services, planning projects, and department initiatives.
- Prepare tax projections, cash flow analyses, net worth statements, investment planning analyses, and insurance summaries in support of comprehensive wealth planning.
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives focused on enhancing tax services, client experience, business development, and retention.
- Develop customized personal and business financial plans for high-net-worth clients.
- Gather and analyze client financial information using planning tools and questionnaires.
- Utilize financial planning software to prepare comprehensive financial plans alongside advisory teams.
- Develop actionable recommendations based on each client's financial goals.
- Create and analyze spreadsheets supporting financial and business planning engagements.
- Evaluate financial planning software and processes to improve planning capabilities and client outcomes.
- Represent the tax department through client education events, seminars, articles, blogs, and other marketing initiatives.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support client service and business growth.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and professional standards.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Trust & Estate taxation with strong technical expertise in fiduciary, estate, gift, and individual income taxation.
- Recognized ability to serve as a trusted technical resource while mentoring colleagues and reviewing complex tax work.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive high-quality client service without direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Approximately 5+ years of tax experience with significant exposure to Trust & Estate and High-Net-Worth individual taxation.
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and tax-related technology platforms.
- Experience working with CRM systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, and client communication skills.
- Comfortable participating in client presentations, educational events, and business development activities.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable.
- Self-motivated with sound professional judgment and integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Compensation
Base Salary: $140,000-$159,000
Annual Bonus: Target 15% (prorated during the first year)
